Accompt is a desktop application for Windows and macOS. It runs entirely on your own computer — your financial data is stored in a local database on your machine, not in the cloud.

Display1280 × 800 minimum resolution. Retina displays fully supported.

Internet connection

Accompt is an offline application, but an internet connection is required at three points:

  • Activation. Entering your license key the first time requires a connection so the key can be validated and bound to your computer.
  • Periodic license verification. While the app is open it checks in with the licensing service to renew its activation credential. If the credential expires and cannot be renewed, you will be asked to activate again.
  • Update checks. The app checks for new versions and shows a notice when one is available. Updates are never installed automatically — you choose whether to download them.

Between those checks, Accompt works fully offline. Entering transactions, viewing charts, and managing accounts never requires a connection.

Firewall and network

If you are behind a corporate firewall or a filtering proxy, allow outbound HTTPS (TCP port 443) to api.spiderhouse.dev. No inbound ports are used, and Accompt does not run a local server.

Where your data is stored

Accompt keeps everything in a single local database file in your user account’s application data folder, along with a folder of automatic database backups.

Windows%APPDATA%\Accompt\
macOS~/Library/Application Support/Accompt/

Your license credential is stored separately in your operating system’s secure credential store — Windows Credential Manager or macOS Keychain.

Please keep your own backups. The automatic backups Accompt creates live on the same drive as your data and will not survive a drive failure, a lost laptop, or a deleted user profile. Include the folder above in whatever backup system you already use (File History, Time Machine, or a cloud backup service).

Licensing

  • One license key activates one computer at a time.
  • Moving to a new computer: open Settings, choose Deactivate this device, then activate on the new machine with the same key. Your data on the old machine is not deleted.
  • Multiple household members can be tracked inside a single installation using household profiles — you do not need a separate license per person in your household.

What Accompt does not require

  • No online account, sign-up, or password — just your license key.
  • No bank connection. Accompt does not link to banks or card issuers and does not import transactions automatically.
  • No cloud subscription or server. Nothing is synced to us.
  • No dedicated graphics card.
  • No administrator rights on Windows.
  • No separate database software — the database is built in.

Not supported

  • Linux
  • iPhone, iPad, Android, or any mobile device
  • Web browsers — Accompt is not a web app
  • 32-bit Windows
  • Windows 7, 8, and 8.1; macOS 10.15 Catalina and earlier
  • Shared installations on terminal servers or virtual desktop environments where the user profile is reset between sessions
